The History of Converse

Converse was first founded in 1908 by Marquis Mills Converse. The brand started to create tennis shoes and winterized rubber-soled footwear. However, in 1917 , they created the All-Star basketball shoe, which quickly became a success.

The brand partnered with Chuck Taylor (the basketball player) which helped revolutionise the company design. He increased their sales massively with basketball players, but the most notable impact was when he helped design a model that the USA used in the 1963 Olympics for basketball. Thanks to his contributions to the company, Converse added Chuck Talyor's name to the All-Star logo .

The Chuck Taylor All Stars started to surge in popularity between the ’80s and ’90s, with the shoes being a trendy choice for casual footwear, not just basketball. Celebrities and artists started repping these shoes, increasing their popularity, and by 2000 , Converse had sold more than 600 million pairs.
