The History of New Era

New Era was started in 1920, when the founder, Ehrhardt Koch, borrowed money from his aunt to start his own cap company. Fourteen years later, the brand signed a contract and began producing caps for the Major League Baseball team the Cleveland Indians.

The company found success with the 59FIFTY, which is a model of baseball hat. It was worn by twenty of the twenty-four teams in the sport and was later released to the public in the ’80s. Tom Selleck promoted this cap by wearing a variation in the TV show ‘Magnum P.I.’ Other celebrities, such as Jay-Z, Easy-E, DR Dre, and Beastie Boys , started rocking this hat, which increased its popularity with a major craze that happened in ’96.

Finally, in 1993, the brand was granted its first-ever exclusive license with the MLB, which allowed them to produce on-field baseball caps for all the teams.
